Something that all Tarot readers are going to face time and again are people who want Tarot gratis, or readings for free. This is an ongoing debate that offers opinions from both sides of the fence. As you branch out a bit, you will find that many people are going to try to get you to use your energy just for the reward of getting to read for them.
One side of this issue involves generosity. There will be occasions when you will feel that someone truly needs a reading, yet they cannot afford to pay for one. This is when you should probably say yes, and provide the Tarot gratis reading. These situations will most likely happen rather often. You are not losing anything by helping someone who is truly in need of any counseling or advice you can provide.
The other side of this question involves people who are always trying to get something for nothing. These people run the gamut of being pitiful and begging, to demanding and rather rude. These are also the people who will remind you that you have been given a “gift” and that it is your “duty” to share that gift free of charge. This is when you ask if they expect a painter to paint their houses for free, or a plumber to snake their toilets for free. You are not required to give these types of people a Tarot gratis reading.
There may be times where it is just “right” to give someone a free reading. Many readers offer specials of the first few minutes free, and the rest of the reading at a discounted rate. This is perfectly acceptable, and it is up to you to take control of the reading to keep any client from taking advantage of the free part. Don’t feel bad if you have to say when time is up.
Most of your clients are going to be very nice people who just have some issues they need help with. These people would not DREAM of asking you for a Tarot gratis reading. In fact, you may find yourself liking them so much that you will offer free readings from time to time. You don’t have to worry that they will take advantage of your generosity. They will appreciate your gift to them, and will not suddenly begin to expect it all the time.
This is a debate that will never end. It is accepted in the psychic community and understood that it will always be an issue with many clients. The important thing is the way you handle each of these situations as they arise.
