Tarot Spreads

One of the first things you will want to learn when honing your Tarot skills is which Tarot spreads are going to work best for you. There are many spreads that have been used over the years, and you will want to learn what those are. When you have mastered those, you can begin making up some of your own spreads.

The first method you may want to learn is not actually one of the Tarot spreads, as it is not a “spread.” It is simply a one card yes or no answer to a question of that type. You do this one simply by focusing on the question asked as you shuffle the cards. When you feel ready, draw one card and turn it over. That is your answer.

Another of the more popular methods of finding answers with the Tarot is called the 3 Card Spread. It is also known as the Past, Present and Future Spread. It is done by focusing on the question, and shuffling your Tarot deck. You can then either cut the deck once or several times, or simply fan them out. Then you will choose 3 cards. The first card drawn is the Past card, the second one is the Present, and the third represents the Future. This is one of the more often used Tarot spreads.

The above mentioned spreads are the simplest ones for new readers to learn as they are not complicated and can provide answers quickly. For more complex questions, there is usually a need for more cards to be involved, as well as a different sort of spread. When this situation arises, Tarot readers usually choose what is known as The Celtic Spread. This is one of the longer, move involved Tarot spreads, but provides a great deal of information. A total of 11 cards are drawn and placed in different positions, each describing more about the situation or question. It ends with an outcome card, suggesting what the end result will be if the path continues the way it currently is.

Once you have mastered these 3 spreads, you will be ready to get creative and invent your own. Many readers find that they work better, and get more results from using spreads they have invented themselves. There is never anything wrong with coming up with a spread on the spur of the moment. Many times it is the best thing you, as a reader, can do for your client.
